How to undo a change after you have published
Undo a recent edit, check it in preview, then publish again — the reliable way to put a live app right.
What you'll do
You'll put a live app right after a change you regret. There are two ways, and which one you want depends on whether you need the site fixed now or fixed properly:
- Put an earlier release back online. Fastest. Your visitors immediately see that version again.
- Undo the change where you built it, check it in preview, then publish again. This is the one that actually fixes the project.
Putting a release back changes what visitors see, not what is in your builder. Your project keeps the files you have now, so nothing you have been working on is lost — but it also means the fix is temporary until you undo the change properly and publish. We keep a copy of your last ten releases; anything older publishes your current files instead, and we tell you when that happens.
Step 1 — Undo the change where you made it
- Open your project in the Visual Builder.
- Use the standard undo (the back arrow, or your keyboard's undo shortcut).
- Keep undoing to step back through your recent changes.
This is the real fix. Your project is now back the way you want it — but your live app has not changed yet.
Step 2 — Check it in preview
Look before you leap.
- Open the preview to see your app exactly as visitors will.
- Switch between phone and desktop views to check both.
- If you want a second opinion, create a private share link and send it to someone. It works for 24 hours and nothing is public until you publish.
Step 3 — Go live again
- Go to the Go live tab.
- Choose Update my live app.
- When it finishes, your live address shows the corrected version.
Publishing again is the only thing that changes what visitors see.
Tips
- Undo, then publish. Undo alone doesn't touch your live app, and publishing alone doesn't undo anything.
- Putting a release back is a stopgap, not a fix. It buys you time with a working site while you sort the change out properly in the builder.
- Your last ten releases can be put back. Older entries stay in the history as a record of when you published, but we no longer keep a copy of what they contained.
- Before you publish, check the build progress and the AI confidence score — they help you catch problems before anyone else sees them.
- Preview is free and unlimited. Use it every time; it is much cheaper than fixing a live app.
